Hello readers! My name is Elaina (they/them) and I will be working as a Community Liaison Worker with the NSRJ team for my co-op education this summer.
I write to you from the traditional and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō, šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam), Stz’uminus, Qayqayt, and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. As a queer and uninvited person of colour to these spaces, I continuously reflect on I can become a better ally for/with the Indigenous communities. This means acknowledging my privilege as someone who was born in what is colonially known as Canada and speaks fluent English, amongst many other things. Unlearning, relearning, and finding connections within my lived experiences and with others in all sorts of contexts is my aspiration.
This aspiration brings me to Simon Fraser University to complete a BA with a major in psychology, though I am most excited to work in both small group / 1:1 settings on projects and make memorable moments in-between. To balance academia, I like laughing with my partner, reading, dancing to funky music, showers, cooking (and dancing), playing games with friends, and creating (music, cards for people, social events, etc.). Thanks for stopping by :)
